VIATRIS México: ¿El encierro arruinó tu salud mental?

La compañía farmacéutica arroja luz sobre el impacto por el confinamiento y las nuevas medidas de prevención. 

De acuerdo a encuestas realizadas por Viatris, la preocupación más común es contraer la COVID-19 mientras se accede a la atención médica. 

Uno de los segmentos más afectados es el de los pacientes con Enfermedades No Transmisibles (ENT), quienes reportan un aumento de episodios de ansiedad y depresión. 

Es un hecho que la pandemia de COVID-19 ha afectado a millones de vidas en todo el mundo, infectando a más de 200 millones de personas y causando cerca de 4 millones de muertes[i]; sin embargo, una encuesta realizada recientemente por la farmacéutica Viatris, demuestra que la pandemia también trajo consigo efectos negativos en la salud mental de los pacientes[ii], sobre todo aquellos que viven con Enfermedades No Transmisibles (ENT) como diabetes, enfermedades respiratorias, cardiovasculares, trastornos mentales o cáncer cuyos tratamientos tuvieron que verse pausados por la situación sanitaria[iii]. 

De acuerdo con la Dra. Chi Lem, Directora Médica de Viatris México, esta encuesta publicada en el Journal of Patient Experience, muestra que los pacientes con enfermedades no transmisibles se vieron profundamente afectados en su estilo de vida y su conducta tras la búsqueda por mejorar su salud; considerando que, dependiendo del padecimiento, el contagio de COVID-19 podría empeorar la condición del enfermo o se podría llegar a desarrollar un nuevo evento de gravedad.

“Es importante tener en cuenta que los principales proveedores de atención médica, los médicos, se encuentran en la primera línea de la lucha contra la pandemia; es importante resaltar que tienen una mayor carga de trabajo, por lo que muchos han tenido que lidiar con episodios de ansiedad y depresión”, comentó la experta. 

De acuerdo al informe antes mencionado, el miedo a la COVID-19 también ha afectado negativamente el bienestar emocional de los pacientes; debido a que el 16% de las personas entrevistadas informaron haber visitado a un profesional de la salud o solicitar asistencia de forma remota durante la pandemia; menos del 10% había estado en un hospital para controlar su enfermedad y más del 70.9% de los encuestados aseguró sentirse muy preocupado por contraer COVID-19 mientras recibían atención médica o esperaban dentro del centro de salud  por tiempos prolongados.
